Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre

Cancer treatment is complex and when the new Victorian Centre required a clinical trials unit with 24 places, eight radiation therapy bunkers and 25,000 square metres of research space, Codus undertook the building surveying.

A game-changing resource in the fight against cancer in Victoria.

This massive extension included a challenging atrium and connectivity to the existing building, with 6 underground levels and 14 above ground levels totalling 19400 sqm floor area. The project required 31 staged building permits plus variations, with associated occupancy permits.

The resulting facility strikes a major blow in the fight against cancer, with 160 overnight inpatient cancer beds, a 42-bed capacity intensive care unit, 110 same-day beds and a dedicated clinical trials unit with 24 treatment places.

Eight refurbished medi-hotel beds were built, with additional space for overnight accommodation for country patients, their families, and carers. Over 25,000 square metres of specialised research space is complemented by eight operating theatres and two procedure rooms, with eight radiation therapy bunkers, plus education and training facilities including seminar and meeting spaces and lecture theatres.
