Melbourne Park

We planned and managed the compliance pathway for a complex stage three extension to one of the nation’s most iconic public sporting venues—and we did it while the Australian Open was actually running.

Extending a national sporting icon under multiple loads (and matches).

When the iconic stadium at Melbourne Park needed a 5,000-seat extension, the project turned to Codus for compliance strategies to facilitate the multiple loads that the proposed buildings would need to operate under. During the project's construction we had to facilitate the running of the Australian Open.

The extension included the new Kia Arena, a new function and media centre, a central logistics hub, and other associated works—all of which were showcased during the 2022 Australian Open.

The project created 600 full time jobs, including jobs for Victorians through the government’s Local Jobs First Policy. Overall, 2,300 workers during construction transformed the Melbourne & Olympic Parks precinct into an unbeatable sports and events precinct, delivering more than 500 events a year, and attracting more than 2.5 million visitors.

Every time I see the Australian Open on the TV I feel proud to remember what we helped make possible.
