Joan Kirner Hospital
The Joan Kirner Women and Children’s Hospital in Sunshine is named after Victoria’s first female premier, and allows more women to give birth and access children’s services in Victoria’s West suburbs.
A project that makes the difference to mothers, infants and children in Victoria.
The hospital features 20 labour delivery rooms, 39 Special Care Nursery cots, 64 women’s inpatient beds, 32 children’s inpatient beds, four operating theatres and additional outpatient clinics.
Challenges included the application of building regulations to the unique interior design dedicated to service the healthcare of women and children. The complexity increased with additional projects surrounding the hospital site as a result of integration of the hospital into the site, and decanting of spaces to facilitate the client's operational requirements.
We drew on our deep knowledge of the procedures for DHHS-funded projects for smooth project operation and an early handover for public use.
