Building possibility:
Why Our Rebrand to Codus
is More Than Skin Deep.

Codus is our new name, and with it comes a new brand—including fresh website, logo, and articulation of the culture we’ve built over 30 years as PLP Building Surveyors and Consultants.

We’ve grown to become the leading building surveying consultancy for complex major projects—but haven’t shared much about that process. That changes from now, with the rebrand part of a new commitment to share the visionary projects we all feel so privileged to help make possible.

In that spirit I’m sharing our reasons for the rebrand, and our experience of the process.

It Ain’t Broke—Why Rebrand?

Over the past decade our company has grown from strength to strength, in terms of people and successful projects alike. Our team has grown, and we’ve delivered iconic and complex projects like Melbourne Park (Stage 3), the Australian Embassy JakartaAustralia 108, and Hamer Hall redevelopment.

Our old website reflected none of that growth—and while we could have revamped the website under our old name, the name PLP was itself the initials of Peter Luzinat—a respected founder, but one long retired.

With a new name better able to reflect our growing vision and culture, the opportunity to rename was too good to miss.

What’s in a Name—Why Codus?

Codus is short, memorable and meaningful. It draws on the Latin stem of codex, from the tablet of wax-covered wood, forerunner to the notebook—and the later Middle English meaning of ‘systematic classification of statutory law’—the very regulatory framework of our vocation as building surveyors.

The ‘us’ in Codus invokes a modern-day ‘us’—our collective sense of thriving as a team and culture, learning together while we do meaningful work on projects with powerful public legacy.

We embraced the naming process as a team, running a months-long competition amongst staff, friends and family to shortlist names. Together we generated a brief for our brand copywriter who landed Codus, using our efforts as a north star.

Our Motto—Building possibility

Our new motto is Building possibility. It’s about how we champion the creative options of visionary designers and builders—all within the letter and spirit of compliance frameworks.

Building possibility is not just about our work at Codus. Major projects are hugely collaborative—and Building possibility is inclusive of the countless contributions of visionaries, developers, designers, project managers, builders and of course fellow surveyors.

Together our sector produces projects with legacies of safe and inspired built environments—for generations to come.

Our Look—Fresh and Faithful

The new look of Codus—expressed in our new visual brand and our website—is faithful to our profession’s history. The brandmark references both buildings and books, while the deep green conjures the parliamentary origins of building regulations.

It’s also purposefully fresh—clean lines and crisp design speak to the forward-facing recruiting, training and mentoring culture we’ve developed at Codus. We offer graduates an exhilarating combination of support from mentors and exposure to the big leagues of major projects. Our new design from a trusted agency shares that dynamism.

Let’s Make More Possible

The Codus rebrand is more than a refresh. It represents a year of deep work—examining our collective passion, mining our sense of vocation to provide a safe built environment.

Codus is just the beginning of a new approach to communications, more aligned with our values and vision. We’ll be telling more stories of great projects. We’ll be encouraging graduates with more team profiles. We’ll be sharing our expertise with more articles.

We hope you’ll stay tuned—and make more possible with us.

No PLP project will be impacted by the rebrand to Codus. For any specific questions please see our Rebrand FAQ page, or speak to a team member.
